In properly maintained playground applications, rubber
mulch will reduce the occurrence of fall injuries. Please note
that rubber mulch can only HELP REDUCE injuries from falls not prevent
them.
What
is ADA Compliant
ADA
compliant-Has been certified by a testing facility for wheelchair accessibility.
Some of our mulch manufactures have ADA compliant material, others do
not. If you are seeking grant monies you may be required to have ADA
certified mulch. If you do not need
wheel chair accessibility any of our mulches will meet ASTM safety
standards. ADA
Standards -
Rubber mulch provides
superior shock absorption well within the established ASTM criteria and
the environment becomes ADA compliant when a handicap accessible walkway
is installed between the handicap parking area and the equipment
transfer station.
This can be accomplished by installing a macadam
path from the parking area to the playground perimeter, then installing
an ADA compatible walkway to the playground transfer station or ramp. (Keep
in mind that you must have a compliant walkway that wheel chairs can
navigate through the mulch to the playground equipment. All of
our mulch is playground compliant. As you can see ADA compliant mulch is
just one component of being ADA compliant when reading the requirements.
Wheel chairs do not have to navigate through the mulch itself according
to the wording here. )

Rubber mulch is loose fill permanent groundcover
for playgrounds and landscape applications. Recycled from scrap
tires through extensive shredding, grinding, magnets and size separation
this 99.9% steel free product is color coated (unless natural is
ordered) with non-toxic colorfast paint and sealer. When used as
directed, rubber mulch is a groundcover for landscape applications that
will help reduce weed growth and eliminate the attraction of wood-eating
insects. In properly maintained playground applications, rubber
mulch will reduce the occurrence of fall injuries. Please note
that rubber mulch can only HELP REDUCE injuries from falls not prevent
them.
A. Composition:
Rubber mulch is composed of 100% recycled scrap
tire rubber.
Particle Size: ¾” nominal-1”+
Steel content: Product is 99.9% steel free
B.
Installation:
|

Proper
site preparation, installation and maintenance are required
factors to insure maximum performance of rubber mark. Site
preparation should include removal of any existing fill and
vegetation. A border is strongly recommended for
containment. A breathable weed cloth barrier is also
recommended. For maximum performance we recommend a 4" depth of
product is 3" is absolute minimum.

Maintenance:
If product is to get dirty it can be easily rinsed off with water.
Leaves and other light weight debris can be blown off with a power
blower at the appropriate height. If any slight color fading
should occur it is likely due to UV rays, therefore simply mixing
the product up will rejuvenate the color.

Important:
In playground applications, it is very important to level the play
area on a regular basis to insure the proper depth is maintained
for maximum fall height safety. This regular maintenance can
be done with a large leaf rake.
